War Games is a new game mode introduced in Halo 4 that replaces the Matchmaking mode of previous games. Much like the matchmaking features of Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo: Reach, the mode contains several playlists that may be accessed by the player and provide an automatic matching system to pair players of equivalent skill.
It is said by 343 Industries that some of the playlists are static and some other ones will rotate in weekly updates. The first weekly update (from the week of November 12th 2012) included the SWAT playlist.

Added by T3CHNOCIDEAs of the 2/11 update, King of the Hill, Team Snipers, and Shotty Snipers have returned into rotation.

Canon
Edit
War Games is also the canonical explanation for multiplayer in Halo 4 due to the guise of taking place on the SPARTAN-IV Program training deck of the UNSC Infinity. It is suggested in the introduction cutscene to episode 1 of Spartan Ops that the Spartan-IV candidates are trained through combat with their peers.
Trivia
Edit
- As described on Halo Waypoint it is said that there is a war games A.I who oversees all the games.
