Added by Specops306WETA Digital is a Visual Effects Company based in Wellington, New Zealand. Founded in 1993 by directors Peter Jackson, Richard Taylor, Tania Rodgers and Jamie Selkirk, it has since done the digital effects for a wide array of television and film works. It is most famous for its work in The Lord of The Rings-trilogy and King Kong, and was planned to be the Visual Effects Company behind the Halo Movie before the film was sent to development hell due to financial disagreements between the Studios, Microsoft and Peter Jackson.
Arms Race
Edit
Though Neil Blomkamp directed the Arms Race short films, Origami Digital LLC, not WETA Digital, provided the digital effects. The confusion is caused by the involvement of WETA Workshop, a related but separate company that did the work on the films.
Trivia
Edit
- WETA Digital's Supercomputers have appeared on every Top 500 list in the world (sometimes even 4 times) since November 2003.
- WETA was the developer of the MASSIVE program, allowing large-scale battles to be fought between digitally rendered AI's. This program was presumably going to be used in the Halo film.
- Weta is the name given to about 70 insect species endemic to New Zealand.
