Introduction[]

Welcome to your weekly news digest!

With the release of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, Halo 4, and Halo: The Thursday War on our doorstep, along side a plethora of wiki updates & changes, I believed that it would be fitting to introduce a weekly news blog bringing some news to our members to keep them updated on the rapidly changing times.

Updates to the wiki, Halo announcements, and Halo information will all be featured here. So keep your eyes out for more information!

Halo National of the Month![]

For those who were here when Halo Nation was once called Halopedia, I'm sure you will remember Halopedian of the Month; an award that was soon stopped and forgotten about when Halo Nation was formed. The award was given to members who showed exceptional prowess when editing, monitoring, or contributing to the wiki. So, welcome the new award, Halo National of the month, back! (I know, imaginatively named, right?)

Users are eligible for nomination when they have at least 100 main-space edits or they are Chat Moderators. Anyone can nominate an individual with the correct requirements, but all users are asked to nominate individuals they believe have done outstanding work for the wiki, and are truly worthy of the medal. After the nomination period has closed, Administrators will sort through the nominations and choose the users they believe are most worthy of the medal before placing them up for a public vote. When the community has voted their winner the user is awarded this pretty award, before the vote restarts for the next month!

Era Icons[]

Many of you may have already noticed that the era icons (Small icons that appear at the top right of the page) have been changed. It has been known for some time now that the era icons have been misused, possibly for users to gain edits, and possibly because users had no real understand of their purpose. The era icons were originally intended to display where an article featured chronologically in the Halo universe's timeline. It then drifted in to displaying where the article appeared in canon material, such as games and books, before finally reaching how it is now; a mess of eras, appearances, and what else!

The era system has had a review, and has now been revamped! Icons have now been divided into two sections, the left-hand side of the page and the right-hand side of the page. On the left-hand side of the page are icons showing where the article features in canon material such as games, films, multiplayer etc. On the right-hand side of the page are icons showing where the article features chronologically, and what faction it belongs too (Forerunner, Covenant, etc.)

The icons themselves have also received makeover, and may now be difficult to understand. So I have compiled a list of icons and what they represent, and when they should be used:

  • Era Icons
    • Human-Forerunner War Icon - Articles that take part during the Human-Forerunner War.
