Introduction

Yesterday was the 10th of December, a momentous day of this year; not only did it mark just two weeks until Christmas eve, but it was also the day that the Crimson Map Pack DLC was released by 343i for download! This bonus content contains three additional War Games maps, eight additional achievements, and access to a brand new "Crimson DLC" playlist which features the long awaited extraction gametype!

Maps

The Crimson Map Pack consists of three maps, Harvest, Shatter, and Wreckage, all set in three breath-taking environments, sure to make you stop and appreciate the true art that these creations are!

USER T3CH Blog Harvest Concept

Harvest is a symmetrical small-medium sized map set in a UNSC facility on the agricultural world of Harvest - location of Humanities first contact with the Covenant at the beginning of the Human-Covenant War. The terrain features a blend of metallic urban structure and rock littered barren land perfect for medium-long range combat and use of vehicles. The surrounding environment suggests the facility is an agricultural storage unit with close proximity to multiple Space tethers - leading speculation to suggest that the facility may be at the ground level of the famed Tiara space station featured in Halo: Contact Harvest. The layout of the map makes for perfect use in objective gametypes such as Capture the Flag or Extraction.

Shatter

Shatter is a symmetrical large sized map set in a civilian owned mining facility on Chi Ceti IV's moon. The terrain features large expanses of dull grey rock decorated with multiple veins of green crystalline ore, and dotted with several base facilities. The surrounding environment features jagged and torn land littered with volcanic activity spewing molten green ore into the moon's dense and tempestuous atmosphere - offering an eerily quite and desolate ambiance. The large expanses of low lying land and assorted multistory facilities offers a perfect platform for big team and objective game types, such as Infinity Big Team and Dominion.

USER T3CH Blog Wreckage Concept

Wreckage is an unsymmetrical small-medium sized map set at the heart of multiple Covenant and UNSC ship wrecks in close proximity to line installations, designed to down Flood infected spacecraft, on an unknown Forerunner world. The terrain features multiple winding paths of bare rock and soil which snake through the wreckage of multiple Covenant Lichs and UNSC Frigates. The surrounding environment consists of an arid island sitting at the shore of an expansive ocean where three Forerunner installations lie, firing unknown beams of energy into the far reaches of the planet's red hued and binary-sun lit atmosphere - speculation would suggest that these beams are the mode in which the installations fell unsuspecting spacecraft during the Forerunner-Flood War. The small size of the map, and lack of indoor spaces makes this map ideal for slayer objective gametypes such as Capture the Flag and King of the Hill.

Achievements

An additional eight new achievements worth 250 Gamerpoints are now available for completion with the release of the Crimson Map Pack. The achievements can only be completed on the Crimson DLC playlist on one of the Crimson maps. The value of each achievement, and how to complete them can be seen on their relevant article pages or in the following table taken from the Crimson map pack page:

Crimson DLC Playlist

With the release of the Crimson Map Pack a new playlist was released specifically for players with the Crimson DLC. This playlist features Crimson only maps and has seen the return of Halo: Reach style gametype selection and voting, allowing for a choice of multiple maps and gametypes, unlike other playlists where only one gametype is available. This gametype is required should you wish to perform some achievement hunting on the new Crimson DLC achievements.

Download

The Crimson Map Pack can be downloaded from the Xbox Live marketplace for a price of 800 Microsoft points for players who did not buy the Limited Edition and did not purchase the additional War Games Map Pass at the cost of 2000 Microsoft points - which allows access to all three map packs upon release.

For those who bought the Limited Edition of Halo 4, or bought the regular edition and purchased the War Games Map Pass, you will be allowed to download the Crimson Map Pack free of charge! To get the map pack for free, you must download it from the "Xbox LIVE Marketplace" portal on the Halo 4 main menu; if it is not downloaded from here you will be charged for the download.
