Hello all. If you haven't heard yet, GameSpy's master servers are shutting down on May 31st.[1][2][3] This will adversely affect online play for multiple games, including Halo PC and Custom Edition. (A full list of affected games can be seen here)

GameSpy hosts the master server list for Halo Combat Evolved and Custom Edition, so the server lists will no longer function. Theoretically, connecting to games by Direct IP will still work, but that would still drastically cut the multiplayer population.

Third party apps such as Halo Anticheat 2 and SAPP have made some alternatives to counter this, but the majority of the Halo player base do not even know about them.

For now, a petition has been created on change.org, urging Microsoft and Valve to add Halo Combat Evolved and Custom Edition to the Steam marketplace and create a new master server list. At the time of this blog post, there are currently 13,000 supporters.

I know it's a long shot, but you lose nothing by signing, and it was through a petition that Bungie released patch 1.09 for Halo CE.

Thanks for reading. You may sign the petition here: https://www.change.org/petitions/steam-adopt-halo-combat-evolved-custom-edition-multiplayer
