Okay, so we all know that quite a few of our administrators are quite busy with real life commitments which means that some things that have been proposed haven't quite been put into action yet. These things include:
- Image controller group - no one has been added and nothing has been openly discussed.
- Other right(s) discussions.
What can be done?
I want the question to be raised so we can perhaps get it all organised and put together. So, perhaps we could discuss it a bit further? Maybe talk about who should qualify for these rights and perhaps use this blog as an initial nomination process.
Other things about the Wiki
It's kinda obvious, I know but the Wiki isn't attracting as much as it used to. The Wiki itself isn't seeing so many new users and though I understand a lot of you may say "Halo isn't exciting at the moment becuase nothing new has come out", this shouldn't stop the popularity of the Wiki. My Little Pony Wiki for example, gets new users all year around, even when no new episodes are due for a while. Halo is still a very popular game and thus the Wiki should be too, we can make it popular.
Gathering some new administrators
Though rights aren't essential to edit, it's no lie that administrators can achieve more. This is simply because they have access to everything about the site, including the mainpage, mediawiki and theme designer. Due to our current administration mainly being infrequent/inactive, it might be a good idea to get some new people to start helping, I personally could think of a few people. This will also mean the main page is updated frequently, drawing people in more and making it more engaging.
Encouraging new editors
This is probably going to be the hardest part of the whole challange but it's certainly not impossible. I think the best way to start is by making an actual effort when new people come, making them feel welcome to the community, the standard Wikia message isn't really enough, being made to feel welcome can leave a lasting good impression, I feel perhaps this should be done, encouraging them to feel free to edit and not being so harsh when they make mistakes. Everyone was new to Wikia and how it works once. Jumping the gun with blocks and warnings isn't the way to go.
What do you think?
If anyone else has any ideas about how to improve Halo Nation and attract more users once again, I'd love to hear about them and I'm sure everyone else would too. Use the comment section below!
