I noticed your comment on the "Babysitter Mistakes" blog, and that got me thinking about something regarding the count of SPARTAN-II numbers. Counting the deaths of Samuel, Sheila, the disappearance of Kurt, Maria's "retirement", Cassandra's WIA, plus the first Red Team's MIA, and now Cal's death. Relating it to the "33 Spartans in action, 25 of 28 at Reach" number that is apparently enshrined to this day, I realized a simple but important problem.

There is no way that there can be 25 of 28 Spartans at Reach out of an original 33 when a total of 9 Spartans are already out of the action. 33-9=24, which would only leave 24 surviving Spartans, and with Grey Team out of circulation, that leaves 21 Spartans at Reach.

The only way for 28 surviving Spartans surviving up to just before Reach's fall is to be accurate is that there are more than 33 active Spartan-IIs'. 28 9=37; 37 Spartans would have to be around in order for this number to valid.

If anything can be concluded from this, 343 Industries has inherited and perpetuated an inconsistency that plagued Spartan-II numbers, even under Bungie's watch. Thinking of the "Spartan Roster" link on the Spartan-II page, it seemed that even from Bungie themselves, the company seen by this wikia as a group of saints, was incapable and unwilling to narrow down the number of Spartan-IIs' alive, dead, or wounded.

This problem has been further escalated thanks to 343 Industries's actions. Hopefully this will be rectified in the future, but that is unlikely. Incompetence from one company can easily be passed to its successor.
