Gameplay from Halo: Spartan Assault, a twin-stick shooter.

The Twin-stick shooter, also known as top-down shooter, is a genre of video game, and a subtype of the shoot 'em up genre. Typically, a twin-stick shooter game tasks the player with eliminating a large number of enemies while also dodging their attacks, so as not to be killed. The defining feature of a twin-stick shooter is its placement of the camera directly above the player character, rather than behind them (as in a third-person shooter) or in their head (as in a first-person shooter).

In HaloEdit

Since 2013, two Halo twin-stick shooters have been released: Halo: Spartan Assault and Halo: Spartan Strike. Both were developed by Vanguard Games and published by 343 Industries.
