"Gravemind doesn't transport himself through the grid" - well, yes, it seems he does. Part of him is where we first see him in the abyss below the Library, and part of him is in Flood-conquered High Charity in the closing cinematic. It seems that either:

  • He teleported into High Charity to talk with Cortana (or possibly teleported a part of himself). This would imply that the grid extends to the space encircled by the Installation as well as its surface.
  • The only other explanation is that the Flood that boarded High Charity in Pelicans built Gravemind an "avatar" (at least some tentacles and a minor nervous system) out of bodies and Flood matter. The Gravemind in the Library could control this avatar from afar (supposing that gravemind can indeed telepathically control/communicate with Flood from a distance - it's possible he can) and use it to talk with Cortana. This is possible, but would mean Gravemind has instantaneous ansible-style communication powers we don't know about. —This unsigned comment is made by Mr Toad (talkcontribs) . It's generally agreed that Gravemind was in In Amber Clad when it struck one of the towers in High Charity. --Dragonclaws(talk) 07:48, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Requiem Teleporting portals[]

In all of the Installations (as seen in 04, 05 and most likely 00)you could teleport anywhere any time. However, in Requiem you could only teleport by going though set portals. Why is that? is it because Reqeium is older? or newer?
