The Rangers were a specialized group of Kig-yar in the Covenant Navy.

They were trained to assist the Sangheili Rangers on zero-gravity combat missions, and so they had similar blue full body armor. They usually carried Kig-yar Point Defense Gauntlets [1] and Type-25 Directed Energy Pistols like their regular infantry counterparts.
[edit] Operational Deployments
These Jackals saw action up until and including the Battle of Reach in late Summer 2552. After this, the Kig-yar Rangers were replaced by the Yanme'e. This was because the Yanme'e were more suited for space combat, capable of flying, and do not need vacuum-sealed suits.
It is likely that the Kig-yar Ranger units have since been disbanded.
