She was married to Bekan Keep elder Jul 'Mdama. They had at least two sons, Dural and Asum. Raia was responsible for administrative and maintenace duties at the keep, while her grand-brother Naxan trained the children in hand-to-hand combat. She was devout in the Covenant faith until the Great Schism, when she, like many Sangheili, abandoned their religion. While Raia agreed with Jul that humanity was still a threat, she believed that rebuilding Sanghelios and re-discovering their independence was more important. Following the Great Schism, power on Sanghelios shifted from the cities to the farmlands as the need for food grew. She began looking through the keep's old records to find ways to improve food production. To that end, she began construction on a drying barn. When her husband began plotting against the Arbiter Thel 'Vadam, she agreed in principle that humanity had to be dealt with, but still believed that it shouldn't be their first priority. Raia fought in the rebellion against the Arbiter alongside Forze. She did not want to leave Bekan Keep, but she was determined to find Jul. She was killed aboard the frigate Cleansing Truth when it was shot down by one of the Arbiter's cruisers, the Swordsman.
