Maria-062 was a SPARTAN-II super soldier of the UNSC Naval Special Warfare Command. She tested the Mark VI MJOLNIR armor that would later be issued to John-117.

BiographyEdit

Special Warfare CenterEdit

Prior to the Battle of Earth in October 2552, Maria tested the new Mark VI MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor in Seongnam in the Kyonggi Province of Korea.

She fought against a squad of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers from the 340th ODST Combat Training Unit with Tactical Training rounds in a mock battle near the Special Warfare Center. After the exercise, the armor was approved for battle and was sent up to Orbital Defense Platform Cairo Station, where it was issued to Master Chief Petty Officer John-117.^[2]

Personal and Family LifeEdit

At the time of the exercise, Maria had claimed that she had retired from service with the intent of starting a family.^[3]

TheoryEdit

SPARTANs are soldiers for life, and are not allowed to retire, making Maria's voluntary exit from the UNSC military perplexing and seemingly contradictory with pre-established canon. However, it is known that prior to the Fall of Reach, a single SPARTAN-II had been wounded too critically to continue active duty.^[4] It is therefore likely that this wounded SPARTAN was Maria-062, and that she was on Earth during the Fall of Reach. If this is the case, it is indeed possible that she attempted to live a normal life and start a family. If Maria was in fact the wounded SPARTAN, then it would seem that her wounds had healed sufficiently by October 2552 for her to participate in the Mark VI test. It is also possible that she served with the Office of Naval Intelligence in some capacity following her retirement, in order to continue serving the UNSC.
