Make an Enemy Kill Themselves

It's either difficult or easy, depending on your skill level, to make an enemy kill themselves. It does, in some cases, require a Banshee and a bridge, or high platform. In other situations the player may be required to manipulate an enemy's aiming in order to get the kills.

This can be done mainly in Campaign, and would require more skill and effort to be done in Multiplayer against human players.

[edit] Examples

In Two Betrayals from Halo, get to the part when you get into the Banshee for the second time. You'll have to fly to a lower bridge. When you do so, land it on the bridge but don't get out. You can fly your Banshee on the bridge, moving toward enemies. As usual, they'll jump out of the way. Eventually, if you can move them long enough, they'll jump out of the way - off the bridge. This is especially humorous when Elites do their famous scream. The same can be achieved by throwing a plasma grenade next to an Elite.

In The Silent Cartographer, when you enter the Cartographer's structure and get to the part where Jackals and Hunters are all over the place, go to the ramp leading down. Draw the Hunters near you and when they charge at you, jump. They will fall down to their death. This can also be done where the bodies of the Marines are.

In The Arbiter in Halo 2, you'll get a Heretic Banshee near the end of the level. A couple of times, you'll get to fight Grunts with Fuel Rod Cannons. If, using the same technique as Two Betrayals and the Silent Cartographer, you can get them to jump off of their especially high platforms.

In Regret, when you are riding the gondola, you can see an Elite standing near the ledge of the gondola opposite you. Toss a Plasma Grenade to the right, though beware not to stick him. Laugh as the Elite does his usual dodging animation, and then realize he's on thin air and plummet down into the water.

In any level in Halo 3 you can make Hunters kill themselves. If you line up the Hunters you can make one shoot the other. However, the gun will still go through them and can hit you, so try to avoid the blast.

Against rampaging Brutes, this is possible. Just avoid the charge of the berserk Brute when at the edge of the cliff. This will usually result in the Brute killing itself due to its own momentum.

In Campaign, if you shoot an enemy about to throw a grenade, they will drop it at their feet. The blast should kill them and on rare occasions they may end up sticking themselves and resulting in the other Covenant the immediate area. And if you want to get really creative, you make an enemy stick another enemy with plasma grenades. When you see an enemy pull out a grenade, quickly run in front of another enemy and the grenade will stick onto whatever victim you chose to stand in front of.

In Multiplayer, although the most popular tactic is by grenade, many others can also be used. One common way is to save a Bubble Shield and use it just as you are about to be hit by a Rocket Launcher at close range. This results in an instant kill. Another way is to rapidly boost a Banshee towards a player wielding a Spartan Laser. This will result in the Banshee being blown up, but the debris may hit the laser-wielding player and cause him to commit suicide.

[edit] Trivia

  • Sometimes the grenade tactics prompt rare dialogs such as cursing, or other rare dialogs spoken by the individual enemy.
  • These tricks can be hard to do, and require good skill to do effectively.
  • Sometimes, players use the grenade tactic by accident, usually in campaign, and so cause their enemies to fall of a bridge or cliff, without the player meaning to make them do so.
