Ammo -M6D

A M225 SAPHE from The Art of Halo 3.

The 12.7x40mm(or 12.7x30mm) M225 Semi-Armor-Piercing High-Explosive (M225 SAP-HE) is a .50-caliber round used in the M6 series of sidearms.[1]

M225 SAP-HE is the standard-issue round for the M6 series. The rounds are nickel-plated[2] and are frequently distributed in ammo packs. It's highly effective against unshielded and unarmored targets. Even capable of penetrating unshielded Elite armor with one shot[3] and killing most Covenant species with one headshot.

This ammo type is fed into the M6-series via 6[4], 8 or 12-round detachable box magazines.

Inconsistencies[]

Two different versions of this cartridge exist according to different official sources, one using a 40mm case and the other using a shorter 30mm case.[5] There seem to be some contradictory information involving this cartridge or maybe two types of ammunition exist at the same time. The round is sometimes simply called .50 caliber without specifying the case length.

The in-game model of the cartridge and the size of the magazine suggest the 12.7x30mm is the more accurate version, but this has also been contradicted by certain guides such as the Halo 4: The Essential Visual Guide, Halo: Official Spartan Field Manual, and the in-game ammo pack description.
