Impulse Drives are propulsion systems first used by the Forerunners and later by the Covenant in their Type-31 "Seraph"-class Starfighters , Type-27 XMF and the Type-51 Individual Breaching Carapace. Impulsive drives appear to be capable of short slipspace jumps.
- In Conversations from the Universe, 343 Guilty Spark mentions "impulse propulsion," perhaps implying that the Forerunners possessed similar impulse technology.
- In the mission Long Night of Solace, the Anchor 9 dispatch officer will say: "Multiple Impulse drive signatures detected, fighter Class, heads up Sabers."
- Impulse drives leave long trails behind, giving a player an easy heads-up of where the enemy fighter is heading during dogfights.
- Impulse drives are seen in Halo 4 on the Type-51 Individual Breaching Carapace.
