Plot[]

In January 2553, at HIGHCOM Facility Bravo-6, HIGHCOM holds a meeting. While acknowledging the immorality of the SPARTAN-II Program, Musa-096 contends that, given the imminent threats of Covenant remnants and the Insurrection, SPARTANS are still necessary. He reveals he already has replacement Spartans.

Three months earlier, ODSTs are deployed to reinforce Marine ground forces on a planet. A convoy of Warthogs escorts Admiral Kovalic, carrying an AI, towards an extraction point. As the ODSTs land, the convoy is attacked by a Jiralhanae Chieftain, and the Admiral's Warthog is overturned. Lance Corporal Palmer's HEV lands nearby, and she defends Kovalic from the Chieftain and other Covenant. Palmer successfully escapes with Kovalic and the AI, but is injured while doing so.

Back in January 2553, Palmer is recovering at Lockhart Medical Station. Jun-A266 visits her, congratulates her on the mission, and offers her a promotion and to make her a SPARTAN.
