Synopsis[]

During the fight with the Didact, John is approached by a Monitor identifying itself as 859 Static Carillon. The Monitor explains that he was allied with Ur-Didact until he decided to bring war to the Composer's Forge and reveals the Forerunner's intention to fire the Halo near Earth to eradicate humanity.

The Spartans managed to fight their way back to the portal while Static covered their retreat. Returning to the surface of the Halo, the Spartans narrowly avoid being crushed by the overhead Composer before being ambushed by the Didact. John attacked him with his combat knife and managed to stick his weapon in the Forerunner's right eye, but that did not kill him as Ur-Didact grabbed him by the head as he began to squeeze. As Blue Team made a comeback, Ur-Didact throws John at his comrades. The Spartans fire at their opponent with every weapon at their disposal but nothing could penetrate his armour. Thankfully, Static comes to their rescue, incidentally knocking the Activation Index out of the Forerunner's hand and teleported him away. The Spartans then recovered. John was left with a cracked faceplate, ringing ears and a fused helmet. Static then informed them that the Didact's armor adapts to any weapon and he sent him to the Control Room. With that information in mind, John took the Index to the Control Room while Blue Team evacuated the Halo. Confronting his enemy, John activates the Halo for the sole purpose of killing Ur-Didact. However, to ensure that the blast is contained, he manually deactivated safety protocols so Static could eject the portion of the Halo they're on to the planet below. The Monitor then managed to teleport John back to his teammates' side while the Didact is vaporized.
