Grenade Spamming is the act of repeatedly throwing grenades into an area.
The term is likely derived from E-mail spam. E-mail spam refers to unwanted and unsolicited messages that are repeatedly sent to an unfortunate recipient; likewise, grenade spam refers to unwanted and unsolicited grenades that are repeatedly sent to an unfortunate recipient.
Grenade spamming has a similar effect to an artillery barrage, and can turn an enclosed space into a deathtrap. Frag Grenades are often used to spam around corners and to deal greater damage; Plasma Grenades are used when spamming a target head-on. Most grenade spammers use grenades to weaken opponents, finishing off their weakened and unshielded foes with standard weapons.
Grenade spamming works best in narrow and confined spaces, where it is more difficult to escape a grenade's blast radius. It works quite well on smaller maps for the same reason. Grenade spamming can also be used to cover an escape, distracting or killing foes when the spammer's shields are down.
An aspiring grenade spammer should use the Plasma Grenade or Spike Grenade when attacking opponents head-on, and the Frag Grenade when spamming from around a corner. On large maps, blindly throwing grenades in the general direction of an enemy base can sometimes result in wounds or kills. On large maps, grenades can also be used in place of anti-weapons such as the Rocket launcher to destroy enemy vehicles.
