SPARTAN in cryo

The SPARTAN in cryo.

SPARTAN in cryo is an Easter egg in Halo: Reach's campaign level The Pillar of Autumn.

By holding the right analog stick to the right in the part of the cinematic where Captain Keyes's Pelican lands in a hangar bay in the Pillar of Autumn, one can see a SPARTAN, lying in a cryo-chamber in the hangar.

Debate[]

The identity of the Spartan has created heated debates on Bungie.net's forums. Some people believe it to be John as he is in cryo at the beginning of Halo: Combat Evolved. However, canon-wise, it can't be John and is most likely Linda as she was in a cryo tube at the time. Bungie has confirmed that John is not a part of Halo: Reach's campaign, leading further speculation of the Spartan being Linda.[1] Linda was not seen inside the same cryo chamber that John was in at the beginning of Halo: Combat Evolved. The cryo tube is also in the hangar, a completely different location than where John woke up in at the beginning of Combat Evolved. Some fans have suggested that it may simply be a non-canon easter egg of John. In the December 2010 issue of Game Informer magazine, Halo's creative director Marcus Lehto confirmed that the Spartan in the cryo is in fact Master Chief, and that "putting him in the 'hushed casket' was the only way we felt his presence in Reach would be appropriate." It should be noted that this is a non-canon Easter Egg of John as he is either in space or he is somewhere else on the Pillar of Autumn at the time.

Trivia[]

  • The easter egg is similar to the Buck and Monkeyman easter egg in the Halo 3: ODST epilogue, with the only difference being that the player needs to push the right analog stick to the left in order to see the egg in ODST.
