Challenges in Halo: Reach and Halo 4 are objectives that give the player extra credit towards their next progressive rank when completed. All challenges are reset at 11am GMT (3am PST) with Daily Challenges resetting each day and Weekly Challenges resetting each Monday.
Halo: Reach[]
Completing a Challenge in Halo: Reach earns the player a set number of cR. Completing a Weekly Challenge unlocks the One Down, 51 to Go achievement. Completing all of the Daily Challenges in a single day unlocks the A New Challenger achievement. On Halo Waypoint, players can also create custom Challenges for themselves or their friends.

Completing a challenge in Halo 4 earns the player a set number of XP towards their next rank. Completing a Challenge unlocks the The Challenged achievement. Completing 25 Challenges unlocks the The Challenger achievement.

Halo: Reach[]
- On 12/3/10, Bungie.net made a programing error which resulted in a challenge displaying on Bungie.net as "Single wield. Earn {required_count} kills with small arms weapons in multiplayer Matchmaking." In-game, the challenge was displayed in its intended form.
- On 1/19/11, Bungie revealed the location of a BOB. in the Challenge "Golden Tree City." The description read, "Find and kill the Gold Ranger-class Elite in a Banshee, fast and low, while on New Alexandria, on Legendary."
- On 8/15/11, the same weekly challenge (Ride The Wave: Complete 150 Waves in Firefight Matchmaking) was featured for a 2nd consecutive week.
- cR rewards have been inflated since 343 Industries took over the Halo franchise.
