A combat knife is a multipurpose knife used by the United Nations Space Command. All UNSC troops are issued a combat knife for utility uses as well as a backup weapon for desperate close combat situations.

Design[]

The combat knife has a blade 20 centimetres (7.9 in) long made of high carbon steel, an anti-flash non-reflective titanium carbide coating, and an edge-coat for corrosion and rust resistance. It is 43.3 centimetres (1 ft 5.0 in) when sheathed.[1] The weapon is also weighted for throwing.

The more common variant of the Combat Knife is a Clip Point blade, inspiration likely taken from the Bowie Knife, which is popular among current-day military.

The Halo 4 variant is a Tanto-style Tracker blade, but omits the usual wire-breaking/saw serrations on the spine. The spine depression (curve on rear of knife) is designed to be used in tandem with a branch for the purpose of pounding or batoning in order to split wood. This variation also features distinct lower and upper cutting edges, the lower blade being known as the "carving blade", having a finer, sharper edge than the rest of the knife (known as the "chopping blade"). The rounded transition from lower to upper blade is known as the "quarter rounder" and can be used as a gut hook.

Trivia[]

  • A larger version of the combat knife, the machete, was intended to be used in Pre-Xbox Halo.
  • This is a signature weapon of assassinations.
  • Emile-A239 uses a Kukri for a knife in Halo Reach.
