The table below shows the development of UNSC weapons through Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 and Halo 3.
Almost all UNSC weapons use projectile ammunition.
| Halo: Combat Evolved | Halo 2 | Halo 3 | |
| Name | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| M6 Pistol | M6D: Useful in almost any situation. 2x zoom makes it good for sniping, and great for headshots. Also effective at close range. | M6C: Stripped-down version of M6D and now dual-wieldable. Lacks scope so not as effective at long range, but still effective at headshots. Does less damage per round than M6D but has higher rate of fire. | M6G: Similar to M6C as it is dual-wieldable and lacks a scope. However, it has a decreased magazine size (from 12 to 8 rounds per magazine), lower rate of fire and increased damage per round. |
| MA5 Assault Rifle | MA5B: The most commonly used UNSC weapon. Most effective at close range, and quite useful against both Covenant and Flood. Has ammo counter and compass on display. Accuracy decreases the further the distance from your target. | Removed in Halo 2 | MA5C: Decreased magazine capacity (from 60 to 32 rounds per magazine) is balanced by increased damage per round and increased range. The compass now points to the mission objective. |
| M90 Shotgun | The most effective UNSC weapon for close range, and especially effective against the Flood. Useless at long range. | Reduced ammo-capacity and even shorter range. In appearance, it is a much darker color and has green sights instead of blue. | M90A: Decreased magazine capacity (from 12 to 6 shells per magazine). Longer reload time. Color of sights are blue, similar to Halo: Combat Evolved |
| Sniper Rifle | SRS99C-S2 AM: The most effective weapon for extreme range, due to its 2x and 8x zooms. Digital, green, radar-like view on rifle's sight, plus the rifle has a night-vision function, which makes finding Stealth Elites much easier. | SRS99C-S2 AMB: 2x and 8x zooms have been replaced with 5x and 10x, the night vision function has been removed, and the digital sight is now a visual image. | SRS99D-S2 AM: The rate of fire has dropped and the visual sight is now a LCD screen with infrared/topographic vision. Night vision is again not featured. |
| Rocket Launcher | M19: Very effective against large groups of enemies, vehicles, and Hunters. Has a 2x scope, so it is useful at medium to long range combat. Should be fired carefully at close range. | M41: The rockets travel faster, and are capable of locking onto vehicles and tracking them. Damage is decreased to balance with the lock-on feature. | M41: The lock-on feature is disabled, and rockets do more damage. Rocket speed is also decreased. |
| M7/Caseless Sub-Machine Gun | N/A | Dual-wieldable, automatic weapon. Good for suppressive fire due to its extremely high rate of fire. Recoil makes it a little more difficult to aim. | Less damage per hit, but this is balanced by increased accuracy, range and rate of fire. |
| BR55 Battle Rifle | n/a | Replaced the Assault Rifle from Halo: Combat Evolved. Fires, short, 3-round bursts and has a 2x scope. One of the most versatile weapons of Halo 2 as it has high accuracy, good rate of fire and does a fair amount of damage per burst. | BR55HB SR: The longer barrel of the BR55HB SR gives it increased range and accuracy. Slower traveling time; only instant hit during the range of one timeframe. The bullet spread is more dynamic compared to the H2 1.1 version. |
| Weapon/Anti-Vehicle Model 6 Grindell/Galileian Nonlinear Rifle (a.k.a. Spartan Laser) | n/a | n/a | Shoulder-mounted, direct energy weapon that fires an extremely powerful red laser, capable of destroying most vehicles with one, direct hit. Has a 2x scope, for distant enemies. When fire button is pressed, weapon has to charge and "paint" its target. After 3 seconds, the main laser fires and destroys anything in its path. |
