Following his graduation from the Corbulo Academy of Military Science, Cadmon was idolized among the officers and educators of the institution who found him to be a model soldier. In contrast, Cadmon's brother, Thomas, attended the academy and was derided by both teacher and fellow student for his reluctance to kill another human being despite the necessity, as the UNSC was then engaged in conflict against the Insurrectionists. Despite this and other differences, the brothers were close and kept in frequent contact through video calls.
Cadmon was also different from his composed and collected mother, Audrey. His manner of speech was much more casual, and he had a strong connection with his fellow soldiers. He became infamous among the other members of his unit for drinking polluted water while stationed on Arcadia, suffering two side-effects: diarrhea and the nickname "Volcano."
Cadmon Lasky died in battle on Andesia in 2526. Thomas was almost broken by the grief, something compounded by the cold nature of his mother's video message announcing Cadmon's death and the revelation that, due to there being no recovered remains, that Thomas should not attend his brother's funeral. Despite the pain of Cadmon's death, Thomas was pressed into service to defend the academy from Covenant invasion, where he found some solace and strength in the brief words of John-117, who had arrived with his team to defend the installation. 
The death of Cadmon had a profound effect on Thomas, adding to his moral crisis regarding the taking of and value of a human life. Thomas would later go on to remember his last talks with his brother while aboard the Infinity years later.
