Côte d'Azur Museum

The Museum of Natural History in Côte d'Azur.

The Côte d'Azur Museum of Natural History was a museum in the coastal city of Côte d'Azur on the planet Sigma Octanus IV.[1] The museum had the appearance of an Athenian temple, with white Marble steps and Ionic columns.[2]

History

At some point prior to the war, and after colonization, a Forerunner artifact was discovered on the planet and placed in the museum. Every possible corundum morphology—bipyramidal, prismatic, tabular, and rhombohedral—was found in inclusions in the igneous matrix of the Forerunner artifact recovered from the museum.

Human-Covenant war

Main article: Battle of Sigma Octanus IV

In July 17, 2552, during the Battle of Sigma Octanus IV, the Covenant attacked Côte d'Azur in hopes of attaining the Forerunner artifact on display in the Museum.

The museum was guarded by two stationary plasma turrets along with a number of Jackals, Unggoy, and Sangheili warriors. A pair of Mgalekgolo was tasked to guard the artifact. Despite these defenses, SPARTAN-II Blue Team, led by the John-117, was able to recapture the museum and secure the Forerunner artifact.[3] After taking several scans of the artifact, the SPARTANs decided to destroy the artifact to avoid the object from getting into the hands of the Covenant. As such, they placed a HAVOK tactical warhead and detonated it as they left for the UNSC Iriquois. The detonation destroyed the museum, along with everything surrounding it.[4]
