Breakout is a round-based multiplayer gametype in Halo 5: Guardians. Players are split into two teams of four and fight on special maps in rounds and with only one life each. The mode places a heavy emphasis on teamwork, as maps are small and only lightly dotted with grenades and weaponry.
Players start out with an SMG primary, a Magnum secondary, and one frag grenade. Players have no shields, but increased health. Each round begins with players launching onto the map from a stage via mancannon. There are no respawns during a round. A team wins a round by eliminating all four players of the opposing team or bringing the neutral flag to the opponent's base. The first team to win five rounds wins the match.
- The Announcer only announces up to round 25. After that, the announcer does not say anything.
