On May 16, 2008, the great Bungie content manager Frank O'Connor announced his departure from Bungie Studios, moving to Microsoft to work more closely with them on Halo related content. The announcement comes one week after designer Francois Boucher-Genesse announced his departure from Bungie, as well.
The announcement took me personally by surprise. Frankie, being the author of the Bungie Weekly Updates (as well as the famous Mister Chiefs that went with them) was a lot more to us Halo fans than a content manager, he was the face of the company; Bungie personified, because he represented the company on a weekly basis and announced so many important things to us Halo fans through the development of Halo 2 and Halo 3. When Halopedia would have a need to contact Bungie about something, we would send an email to Frankie, who was courteous and responsive to our emails.
I can't help but lament at his leaving, it comes at a time when Halo 3's sucess is starting to cool down, and we have no idea what Bungie has in store for us, or where if we will ever see Halo content again. It has been nearly 3 years since I first joined Halopedia, and through that whole time, it was through Frankie that I would get the weekly news on Halo. I would say that he has become a community leader, the mouthpiece of Bungie itself for years.
So I thought I would take some time to wish Frankie good luck! You have been a great content manager, and thanks for everything you have done for the Halo community. I hope we hear more from you again soon.
