Blasting the Blast.

For a while now, people have been complaining about board blasts. And while people complain, we all continue to get meaningless board blasts. Some people have suggested that we get rid of the feature entirely. I see that standpoint as a bit extreme.
I have found the board blast feature very helpful. Considering I have 450+ people on my friends list, I can use the feature to spread word of a project in order to get more participation. Users have also used them to announce their going on leave. Unfortunately, that's just about where the positives end. Like many things with the new skin, I think the board blast is a good idea that went awry.
I have noticed three major categories of unhelpful board blasts. The following are all real board blasts I have received, and I have chosen to protect all of their identities.
- "rjvbjehbjkrhvbhrekjvajkabjdfbjkrfhnjvhbej;shvsrjhv;jhb;kjh;lehjlehn;ljrhnvjrnja;vnlkajbnjlanbjlfdnbjlf"
- — Plain and simple, this is spam. Often times, a user sends something like this when they crave attention. The attention they get could end up coming from the banhammer.
- "As of August 7th I have gotten every achievement in Halo 3!"
- —To put it plain and simple, Nobody Cares.
- "I have xbox live my name is
XBLgamertag." - —I would think that this would not be something you just hand out over the internet. And besides, not everyone has XBL.
We all get board blasts that annoy us. One thing people do that does not help the issue is put "Sorry bout board blast" (albeit spelled miserably wrong) on the end of the message. Adding that draws attention to the fact it is a board blast. Then you realize it's time to get annoyed. Another thing that doesn't help the issue is board blasts like this.
- "Hello there fellow Halopedians. I would like to request that you quit sending me board blasts. THEY'RE ANNOYING! Thanks, ciao
PS. Sorry to those that don't send the board blasts" - —Is anyone going to actually keep track?
My personal opinion is that removing them is not the answer. The board blasts that annoy us often come from users who aren't as intelligent as the rest of us, or created a Halopedia account with out any intentions of ever editing. But my question to all of you is, what could fix the problem?
