BackgroundEdit

The 17th Marines were one of the units stationed in Mombasa, Kenya to provide security for the city. Specifically, elements of the regiment guarded the ONI facility in the city that was editing press releases about the war.

Battle of MombasaEdit

During the Battle of Mombasa, the Covenant attack shattered the regiment, but the survivors, along with armed civilians, engaged the Covenant in a holding action until relieved by the rest of the 405th Marine Infantry Division and 7th Shock Troops Battalion.

• They were first mentioned and seen in the Halo Graphic Novel, and it is likely that some of the members of the 17th were in Halo 2 along with Halo 3: ODST as well.
