In 1775, the formation of the United States of America was declared. Also, the Continental Marines, a predecessor to the United States Marine Corps, the UN Marine Corps and the UNSC Marine Corps, were established by the Continental Congress to fight the British. There were two battalions of Continental Marines. However, only one was ever established. They were disbanded in 1783, after the rebels won their independence from Britain.
